In the field of industrial certification, certifying the level of quality of specific data repositories can provide customers and partners with confidence. The standard ISO/IEC 25012:2008 has been defined to ensure the industry with a general data quality model for data retained in a structured format within a computer system. This model defined in the regulation is composed of 15 characteristics, among which we can find for example accuracy, consistency, availability, recoverability, confidentiality and traceability.
In the whole assessment process it is necessary also to consider the ISO/IEC 25024, which defines the data quality properties and the corresponding information, and the ISO/IEC 25040, that defines the structure of the evaluation process for the evaluators to be tailored.
The importance of assessing data quality
The benefits of a data quality assessment can be summarized in four points.
- Certifications of the quality of collected data within an organization assure a long-term sustainability, both in terms of risk reduction, maintenance but also in reputation and brand image.
- Running data quality evaluations helps the company in better knowing the internal and external processes of the organization, both on a managerial point of view and on a technological level.
- After the first evaluation, the knowledge acquired makes sure that future data quality management initiatives run smoother and can focus on different dimensions.
- The continuous evaluation of data quality leads organizations to a deeper understanding of business processes, and therefore of better strategies to improve the performance.
Software certification and standards
From the business point of view, preventing poor data quality should be the top priority. Software quality becomes a central theme, to ensure that all processes and procedures are implemented and recorded correctly. Software that processes large amounts of data must be able to continue to operate under unforeseen conditions, keeping the risk of errors to a minimum or by eliminating it. Programs in fact can also earn quality certifications by testing and verifying the overall software development process, including source control, change management and code review, as well as releases.
ISO quality models including ISO 9126 and ISO 25010 can be used for the evaluation of software in terms of acquisition, requirements, development, use, evaluation, support, maintenance, quality assurance and audit of software.
Innovative solutions for companies
TC2 Group has developed a technology solution called QmX, to support the implementation of quality processes in the digital field within the company. It is an integrated web solution that guarantees the digitalization of quality assurance and control processes, as well as corporate business processes, with the digitization of test reports, suppliers scorecard and more.
Switching to paperless governance allows the collection of a large amount of data that improves the analysis of performances based on a real-time information data structure. Data can surely guide companies and organizations towards better strategic choices through these types of advanced business intelligence systems.
